This brochure provides an overview of the AIR Bushfire Model for Australia, where fires that once raged across grassland and forest burn today through highly developed commercial and residential areas, causing significant insured losses. The model employs several parameters that drive the generation of realistic fire perimeters—including available fuels, weather, and topography. The phenomenon of clustering—a distinctive feature of Australian bushfires—is explicitly modeled. To capture building and structural characteristics in fine detail, the model employs separate damage functions for 44 construction types, 48 occupancy classes, and several height bands.
